Default Climate control - no option for "cold air"?!

THis is weird.

I have this beautiful A4, red, 2005.5 with navigation system and lots of special features. But where is my air conditioner?

On the climate control, if I attempt to enter temperature less than 60F, I just see an indication "LO". Then it sounds like I have no cold air at all, just the fan blowing air which appears to come without any refrigeration.

I read the manual and it appears that the "LO" indication is normal once you go lower than 60F.

Is this by design? How can I get cold air then? I am wondering whether that is a defect. If it is not, I feel like a stupid having a nice car like this with so many options but lacking a basic air conditioner!!

It all depends on what the exterior temp is. Lets say its 40F outside and you have the interior temp set at 60F its gonna blow hot air to heat up the cabin cause its cold outside. Now if its 90F outside and you have the interior temp set at 60F its gonna blow cold air to cool down the cabin, its an automatic system. Now if its hot outside and its still not cooling off the cabin make sure the ECON button isn't lit up as this dissables the A/C compressor. If you can't turn off the ECON button something is wrong with the system and has to be diagnosed.

just set your temperature and go, if it needs to cool it down it will blow cold air,if in needs to warmsthings up it blows hot air.

Actually your wrong. i was on the way home from work and it was probably about 50 degrees out and i had the temp set for around 70 and i was dying of heat. so i turned it down to LO, and it still blew warm air... but the other day when it was about 80 degrees, my car was previously set to 75 from the night before and it still blew cold air out.

I don't see the problem here. Sounds to me like it's working exactly as it's supposed to. If it's 50 out, and you set it to LO, the air coming in is still going to be warmer than the outside air. And if it's 80 out, and you have it set for 75, of course it's going to blow cold air. My question to you is that if it's 50 out, and you're dying of heat, why not just roll down the windows?
