I purchased my used '06 A4 3.2 Quattro no more than a month a go and it seems to be a magnet for problems. Since I am a rookie Audi owner, I have posted a few questions I would appreciate a veteran B7 A4 response. I truly appreciate your time!

Initial throttle response seems really slow. I feel as if I need to press the pedal down nearly a quarter of the way to get it traveling. I don't know if this is due to the quattro needing to kick in? But I have not had any vehicle which responded so slowly. Please advise.

Vehicle does not turn over properly when starting. Sometimes the vehicle starts right up, other times it takes a moment, other times it doesn't turn over at all and makes a noise as if it wants to--but doesn't. However, if I wait a few seconds after initially trying to start, it will then start right up. Looking for a reasoning so I can get fixed right the first time and not pay a large amount at the dealer.

Finally, I have the luck of a quarter falling directly into the shifting knob area. Lucky for me, I had to take off the trim(wood grain) and the silver trim area to finally get out the lodged quarter. In the process, I saw a brief spark on the circuit board (which illuminates the P, R, D, etc). Now, the "P" and "R" no longer light, my tip tronic will not shift, and the instrument cluster does not change and only shows P R N D. Long story short, I must have inadvertenly caused a short in that little ciruit board. It easy to remove with just a pull and its is dislodged from its base. Where can I find a circuit board at a reasonable price? I am assuming I do not need a unique circuit board for my car and I can just plug it in.

Thank you greatly for your time to respond. I hope it will save me a few thousand dollars from skipping the dealer's hourly rate.

Hey steve,

I have a 2008 3.2 Quattro and I think my throttle response it slow as well, maybe its just how it is i guess. Sorry couldnt help you out on anything else.....is your car still under warranty?

Car is NOT under warranty so I am even more frustrated than the average owner!!! PLEASE HELP ANYONE!!!

If you have a 2006 your car is under Audi's warranty for 4 years. Doesn't matter if your the second owner. Are you over the milge amount?

Does anyone know if Audi will still replace? Any help with the other issues is appreciated.

They will not repair you shorting out the shifting circuitry. The first thing to do is check the fuse for the tip-tronic function (does it even have one?) and intrument illumination function of the car.

As for the delayed throttle response, it is possible you need a little tune-up. Check your air filer for dirt and or other blockages. It couldn't hurt to check the spark plugs too. What type of gas are you running in the car? These cars demand premium for optimum performance.

The starting issues can be caused by a plethora of issues. You may have a bad battery, faulty starter, engine immobilizer, ignition assembly, spark plugs, plug wires, fuel pump or fuel filter. Do you get any particular lights when you try to start and it fails? Go and have your battery tested at any local auto shop for proper voltage and cranking amps. If your batter has ever been run dead this can cause the problems you are experiencing.

You might want to check TSB's for your car. I have the 2.0TSI, but had similar issues with starting particularly in the Winter. After my CEL light came on I went to the dealer expecting $$$$ and it was all done for free..the flashed the ECU and car starts like it is supposed to. I'm not aware if it applies to all B7 or if it was just the 2.0TSI.

If you recently bought the car; say under 90 days, there is at least a powertrain warranty. Read the 'Buyer's Guide", if it's checked 'Warranty' then you are covered either 50/50 (you pay 50% and dealer pays 50%) or 100%.

Do you have an Auto tranny? If you have tiptronic, slide the stick over to S mode. Doubt you will have any more hesitation.

you can pick up just the printed circuit from you dealer for pretty cheap. and yes you can just plug it it. but your gonna have to have somebody clear the faults if the PRDS doesn't light up still. as far as the hesitation check the air filter and all that good stuff, but you may also need to clean your throttle body. build-up on the throttle plate can cause a major hesitation when first accelerating. you can either just take off the air pipe that connects the air box to the throttle body can clean it that way, or totally removed the throttle body to better clean it. the backside of it will be the dirtiest and harder to clean.

if you haven't already, have someone check you battery. if you can check the voltage of the battery while you have somebody crank the car. also check all battery and starter cables for corosion or damage. if the voltage drops below about 10 volts you either have a problem with the cables or the battery is done for.

also, if the battery is in fact faulty, it can cause your accelerator pedal to loose adaptation. if your not aware from 2000 or 01 i think all audi's are throttle by wire, or all electronically. so really your foot being on the gas pedal is only a request to the ecm of what you would like it to do.

when you accelerate does it make a "clunk" or "bang" sound or does it jerk hard. could also be engine/transmission mounts faulty causing hesitation feeling.

Audis have crap throttle response. Main complaint of owners. Chipping is the easiest way to correct this.

Starting issues may be fuel pump issues. When you start the car turn the key to the one posit. for a couple seconds, then it should start no problems.

As for the quarter, thats just poo luck. You could prob pick up the board from the stealership for a little $$.

Audi's aer touchy vehicles man, its like a fu<kin relationship, I talk to her everyday. The more you care for her the better she'll treat ya.
