chadeyboy -> 1989 audi 200 need help (4/14/2008 8:17:05 AM)

i have a 1989 audi 200 turbo and first bought it with an ignition problem and all it was was the coil so that was replaced with a used coil then any time it got hot it would just shut off, i thought it was the coil, well i replaced that and then i found out the fuel filter was bad, so i replaced that and after that i put some custom fuel lines and it still has some problem it wont start and not sure whats wrong but i know it gets spark i have checked that but now don't know whats wrong so if anyone has an idea then let me know thanks.

for an 89, you shouldn't be using the fuel pump relay to check the codes. on the page i sent you scroll down until you see the section entitled

Fault Code Reading

1989-90 200 Turbo Quattro,
1989-91 200 Turbo

you need to connect some jumper wires on the diagnostic plugs under the dash to make the check engine light blink

also now i have another problem two days ago i charged the battery and today i went in just to see what it would do and i also was going to chek the fuel pump so when i cranked it it started and stayed on for like 10 min and then when it got hot it just turned off. and the coolant was like boiling hot after it was on for that long.

I have always used the relay for code checking but I know there are other ways, if you were using a code reader you could use the plugin for that (Each one will have the instructions for where it is) Have you checked the relay for the fuel pump?? Is the relay hot to the touch??
