Default MY A/C SMELLS BAD.....

when I turn it on. It only lasts for like 30 sec. but the smell is horrid. Do I need a new air cabin filter or is it something else? And I feel like it takes too long to get cold. WHat do I need to resolve that? Thanks

I had the same problem last summer. I think that is a cabin filter. And you need to recharge your freon to get that cold again, IMHO.

I'm pretty sure its the air cabin filter, it has to be, and does it cost ALOT to get the freon recharged?

What does it smell like? You need to start taking stuff apart.

Stagnant water: I have found 2 general causes to bad odors in the HVAC systems on cars. Not Audi specific but there isa drain to allow condensation water to exit. If the drain plugs up the water gets stagnant. Sometimes you can get at this from under the car, i.e. stick something up the drain tube to see if you can unplug it, you might get lucky.

Dead animal: The other cause is a mouse getting into your vent system, if they can get in the air intake they generally die in there. I had to pull a whole dash apart in a t-bird once to get a mouse out. Nasty job.

Added note: Yes the cabin air filter can get bad, It's easy to change out too. But it shouldn't cause a really bad smell.

idk how to explain the smell, but its pretty bad. I guess you can call it stagnant water. I have NO IDEA on how to start taking stuff apart, so I'm gonna have to take it in somewhere and get it checked.

Is that right? It only lasts for about 15-30 sec, then it goes away. Maybe I do have a dead mouse in my vent system [:@]

You could open your air box in30 sec and have a look andsmell the filter. I would do that before I took it in to somebody. Should change your filter once in a while anyway.
