I have just purchased a 2000 ming blue audi a6 2.7t, the car has 87000 miles and i just got an oil change with 0w-40 mobile one, is this the right oil? It is what the previous owner suggested.  Also, he told me that the timing belt was due at 105k, if anyone knows otherwise please let me know.  Finally, I was curious as to how much I would be spending with taking the car to an audi dealer for the timing belt.  Thanks in advance

I would do it now! Dealer will charge you north of 2Gs I bet. Indy probably 1000-1500.

get this kit

I have just hit 84k on my 01 2.7t.

I use Mobil1 0W-40 in the winter and 5W-30 in the summer.  He's in NM...pretty warm.  A little higher viscosity should not hurt anything.

I did my timing belt at 90k, even though the manual called for 105k.  So it's something that should be addressed soon.

New recommended TB service is 75k miles, if modded I would do earlier.
Did mine at 70k before taking the car on a road trip for vaca last summer.

I use CASTROL MADE IN GERMANY oil, SYNTEC European Forumla SAE 0W30, must say Made i germany on the back... not euro blend or made in europe... or made in US.... only sold in 0w30 here.
Found in a few Autozone... when they get a shipment I buy all the ones they have on rack... me and that other guy with a corvette fight for it :) Great oil.

^ Listen to this guy. He knows what he is saying.

I have never taken my car to any other place except dealer (in fact got tires from them too), and they put 0W-40 when I was in DC (because it is colder in winters), and now that I have moved to CA, they put 5W-30. So, there is nothing wrong with 0W-40.

I asked my dealer the last time I was there to get the engine oil change, which I do every 4000 miles, and he quoted me $2600 for the timing belt change. Parts and labor included. My car is still below 50K miles, but i will get it done at 75K, at the service schedule.

I bought mine at 80k and had the dealer include the service in the price, They tried telling me it didn't need to be done and i laughed at them. I'd order the kit and DIY or find an indie mechanic that knows Audi's. You'll save money, but make sure they are familiar with you're car. Saving money is good, but not if you're sacrificing quality.

Since we're talking about oil. Anyone with the 2.7t will know that the turbos need oil. Well what about sea-foaming the car? Will that hurt the turbos? I've seen it done on the 1.8t but thats a different engine. Just curious

Just had timing belt done at 102K miles at dealership.  They also changed serpentine belt.  Total cost 1200.  (Colorado).  0w40 oil synthetic sounds right.  I originally used it and want to go back to it!

use 0w40 if you live in a colder place, but if you live somewhere where the weather is normally over 50 degrees use 5w30

I got my oil changed about 100 miles back and since its getting warmer out and summers coming, the guy at the oil place said he recommends 10w-30 for the warmer weather. I always use mobile 1. Any one know about this and is it ok for the car? Im in Michigan and I have an 01' 2.7t
