sounds like someone's a media whore.. If you acutaly did any research from primary sources you'd find out how wrong you really are. Stop believing everything you see on CNN and the morning paper I mean serisouly.. when was the last time you heard about Iraq in the morning news on TV? Why do you think that is? mabye because things are acutaly working out there and they don't want you to know about it??? and if you really want healthcare for every american you should take a quick look at how horribly it's failed in places it's been implimented, like the UK and Canada, where people spend thousands to fly to the USA to recieve healthcare, not to mention how communist it acutaly sounds, Hillary and Barack are not talking about universal healthcare, they're talking about Wealth redistribution in the long term. most of their policies sound very socialist to me.

lmao maybe you should take some of your own advice and do some research.
I'm sure things are going GREAT in Iraq right now. Yea. Sure. A bullshit war cannot "work" no matter how you measure things.

Secondly, healthcare has not failed in the UK and Canada in the slightest. The systems are different in some aspects (with UK full government ownership and with Canada billing) but to say they have "failed" is completely and utterly false.
There is healthcare for each citizen for less money than you're spending in the US even when you adjust for population. Just because something is different doesn't mean it is a worse way.

"Wealth redistribution" sounds all well and nice but take a look at the gap between rich and poor. What amounts to the whole population of Canada doesn't have any health insurance in the USA because they can't afford it.

In terms of gas prices, yes they are rising, how much of that is attributable to inflation is debated widely but safe to say that both sides do have a point.
The only way to change things is to take a close look at our habits and what we're doing here in North America compared to the rest of the world and how much fuel we are wasting (yes, wasting) in both heating our homes as well as driving around. You don't "need" a 4000 sq. ft. house for a 3 person family.

west LA 3.90 for regular

The wholesale price of gas - where the stations buy their gas is really hitting new highs and the prices at pump are somewhat delayed so I doubt we will see any real relief soon.
The high prices are pretty much summed up:
1. Growing global demand
2. Flat or declining oil production - many countries are already in decline
3. Dollar's value dropping drastically - bankers are loaning money out from thin air like nutts and recession is looming - dollar has lost a lot of value and while Fed says inflation is 3% we all know that the drop of our money's value has hit harder than 3%

So, there's a little island in Michigan called Beaver Island, it's small enough that there are only two gas stations on the island.  Due to the difficulty of getting fuel to the island, regular unleaded is $4.99/gallon.  According to the news, that is the highest in the nation right now.

I guess I'll take the sub-four dollar gas...

Since it's "Earth Week" and all...  Does anyone think Audi would still have such a huge following if they began introducing hybrid vehicles?  What do you think the popularity of them would be?  (I realize there is a Q7 hybrid concept vehicle, but I'm unaware of any others...)

We bought our A6 for fuel economy.

Our Grand Cherokee got 16mpg.  My Corvette gets 31mpg on my work drive.  Replacing the Jeep with the A6 is a huge improvement in mileage.

We drive 72 miles per day, each, to work and back, but its 90 percent freeway.  I try to average out the Corvette to 25mpg.  I drive nice on the way to work and drive the way I want to on the way home.

If your work drive is your biggest expense get a beater.  There are PLENTY of 1500-2200 beaters out there with very simple problems.  Suspension, brakes, etc which are all very cheap to fix and get over 30mpg and pay themselves back within a year.

We buy used....the A6 is actually the first car I've bought that doesn't need any real work.  We bought our fully loaded GC not running, replaced the timing chain, guides, all the suspension, drove it for a year and a half and I'll sell it for more than I paid for it.

Suspension work is extremely simple, can be done with simple hand tools, but is also the thing that garages rape people on.

I paid 3.89 last night to fill up, $65 per tank but I'll get nearly 1.5 times the mileage out of that same $65 so its still a savings for us.

BTW don't believe the Hybrid hype.  The overall cost is still higher than a gas car.

If GM can get their hydrogen fuel cell working that will be one of the things that truly will change history in this country.  Cellulose based bio fuels also have promise.  GM has patented a home electrolisis machine to make hydrogen in your home.  With current electricity prices being around .09 per KW, GM's quoted fuel economy of 300 miles on 8.5kg of hydrogen we figured that worked out to 2.25 a gallon in comparable gas prices.  Live in California or other southern area's where you can use solar to power the machine and you could cut that to sub $2.00.   Make hydrogen at night when rates are lower, cheaper yet.  Of course we need the environuts to let us build nuclear power plants to offset the additional electricity production required.

Biodiesel made from algae looks to be the big ticket, its a biomechanical way of changing sun light into fuel.  We have enough sunlight and desert areas to do it here in the US its just a matter of making it work and be productive.

Hybrids, E85, and all the rest are just hype, cost more in the long wrong, and are the darlings of politicians.

I went to pump some gas at around 5 a.m. this morning. Im trying to beat the gas prices, heard its a handy little trick to pump gas while it is cool. And as I pulled in I saw some dude fidling with the gas price board. So I thought, finally maybe the price dropped. Down here in Miami gas sumped around 15 cents, from 3.45 per gal to about 355-3.60. Then he place the last two digits on the sign and it was like BAM! 3.70! I likerally felt like crying. I don't know whats going on, but im a college student. And this spike in price is killing me. That jumps my average weekly gas costs to about 85 dollars.
So how about you guys?

One time, years ago ( I do not remember the temp or time of day ) I topped up the trike with gas and went for a litle ride.
after traveling about 18 miles I stopped in a little park, sat for just a little bit when I noticed gas overflowing out the gas neck at the top of the tank!  Gasoline was actually expanding faster than I could use it up!   true story.

I have a 2001 A6 Avant, 2.8 quattro, and I'm in SLC, Utah. Gas here is about 3.60+/ gallon. What type of gas mileage sgould I be getting in the wagon? Right now I think I really average 17mpg, city/highway average, How could it be so HORRIBLE bone stock? I've checked the brakes and am about to get a full tune-up, THE CAR ONLY HAS 73K miles on it! Someone help explain a little... I used to have a 2000 VW GTi with VR6 that got 22mpg... Is it just the weight?

For those who think we're getting screwed in the United States, here is an interesting article.

http://money.cnn.com/2008/05/01/news/international/usgas_price/index.htm?postversion=2008050110

"NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Despite daily headlines bemoaning record gas prices, the U.S. is actually one of the cheaper places to fill up in the world.

Out of 155 countries surveyed, U.S. gas prices were the 45th cheapest, according to a recent study from AIRINC, a research firm that tracks cost of living data.

The difference is staggering. As of late March, U.S. gas prices averaged $3.45 a gallon. That compares to over $8 a gallon across much of Europe, $12.03 in Aruba and $18.42 in Sierra Leone.

The U.S. has always fought to keep gas prices low, and the current debate among presidential candidates on how to keep them that way has been fierce.

But those cheap gas prices - which Americans have gotten used to - mean they feel price spikes like the ones we're experiencing now more acutely than citizens from other nations which have had historically more expensive fuel.

Cheap gas prices have also lulled Americans into a cycle of buying bigger cars and bigger houses further away from their work - leaving them more exposed to rising prices, some experts say. "

Speak for yourself!    4,000 sq ft is too small for my 2 person family. Don't try to put everyone in your position. If your happy with 500sq ft for 5 people good but don't tell me what I need or tell me how to live. If I want to be a consumer and natural resource user that is my RIGHT.

Sorry to burst you bubble about hydrogen but look at the "hydrogen economy" - "hydrogen energy" balance before placing all your eggs in the fuel cell basket.  It does not add up!

Solar cells and electricity storage need significant efficiency improvements before solar energy can become universally viable.

At least I agree with you on atomic energy - we still need to figure out what to do with radioactive waste. (I'm leaning toward using NJ as a storge site because it is already toxic.)
