Default Engine Trouble

I have a 1999 Audi A4 1.8 quattro turbo. For a few weeks my check oil light was on but I had a synthetic oil change maybe two months before when oil light first went on. Someone told me I just needed to reset the computer so that'swhat I thought it was. Then a month later on saturday when I was pulling up to a parking lot my car started shaking. I got it look at and they said that the first cylinder is misfiring and they checked the spark plugs and coil. What do you think it could be and what do you think I should do. I am a college student and I don't have money for a brand new engine. Please help.

Go to AutoZone and have it scanned for codes (free) and then post the results and that will help the forum members narrow down the problem for you.

remember 1.8t are notorious for sludge, did you check the oil level, also doa seafoam to clear up the oil pick up tube, the misfires could be many things, like sine said get us the codes and we'll go form there.

What oil light is on?

If it is the oil pressure light, you either have a bad oil pressure sensor or low oil pressure.

If it is the pressure light, have the oil pressure checked immediately.

If your oil pressure is OK, and you are still misfiring on cyl 1, check the codes and clear them and move the coil to another cyl. If the misfire moves with the coil you need a new coil. If the misfire stays with the same cyl, it may be the ignition control module.

It ended up being the power panel which the coil plug is connected to and your ecu unit but thanks for trying to help. I know a guy who works at a audi place and he said he has worked on audi's his whol life for about 20 years and he said he has never seen a coil go on an audi except for the newer models like a B7. Just thought someone should know for future questions. Thanks.
