Finally got timing belt changed for $880

my car is at 77k. i called the dealer in nj and they said change at 120k and the one in pa said it should have been changed at 70k. after hearing people around 80-90k have snapped the belt i got worried. anyways

they replaced,

timing belt, i dunno whats its called but there is another smaller belt near the timing belt, that was replaced, belt dampner, tensioner, thermostat, waterpump, and antifreeze bullk was replaced. including the labor i paid 880 including tax, what do you guys think resonable?

um, sounds kinda close, I can't remember the exact number but I feel like I got quoted similar to that for replacement from the dealer, but I'm rally considering just DIY'ing it and saving mass money.

Too late now, but next time u need to have the timing beltchanged again consider doing it urself. I just did mine about 2 months ago and it was alot easyer than i thought it would be. Harderst part of the job for me was one of the crank pulley bolts stripped[sm=headbang.gif]. After that it was a breeze. Saved myself alot of money, only payed $265.00 for the kit.

I got quoted ~$800 too from a non-stelaership shop and $1500 from the dealership. Gonna do it for $900 (with APR snub mount install) next week.

Thats reasonable.

I have a shop in Philly that charges me 400 labor (I provide the ECS kit) and also have them do the front cam seals at the same time.

wow 880 is still high and I changed mine at 102,000 miles because that is when mine broke... Yea it sucked I called the dealership and they said it would be $2900 for the head since all valves were bent!!! and $5900 as a whole with labor... So yea i was forced to do it myself because a the ripe age of 17 money is pennies... But to gain since I did it myself i bought all new valves, gave the head a acid bath replaced the timing belt, all other belts, thermostat, waterpump, and a A/C pulley that was making alot of noice for $$$600.. Plus i got to explore my car and gain knowledge on how it runs...

Definetly wish I was up to the DIY but not sure about this one...it would be my first major one in the engine bay. However, I was wondering, for those of you whose TB actually snapped, what signs of wear did you hear before it actually happened, if any?? I'm asking b/c I'm almost certain mine is going from the sound of my engine but don't quite have the money yet [I'm a student]. I'm at 130 km so I know I'm due for it anyways...I've been reading that the average belts give out around 80k so unless thats in miles, I guess I'm lucky its lasted this long [but I'm assuming thats been miles].

I got quoted for about 650 from a local shop nearby me and that seems to be a pretty good deal from what I've heard so far.

just do it yourself. I did mine in a day a couple months ago and you learn a lot about your car. Like how for some reason i had troubles getting the bumper snapped back on. Then you can also take the time to clean places in your car you won't see for quite a long time. It was overall not that hard, hardest part is getting to the damn front of the block. Also just as a word of wisdom, make sure you have all connections before putting back together. I just found the ac condenser switch yesterday that was unplugged underneath my headlight. It was amazing having a/c for the first time in a couple months
