After recent starting issues with my car I located a 1" diameter rubber hose that is severely cracked and should be replaced ASAP but have no idea of it's function. Unfortunately I do not have a picture of this hose but it's location is directly underneath the intake plenum/ throttle bodyto the left of the dipstick. It seems to be coming out of the block and is not under pressure or vacuum as I tested it; may be a recirculation/ ventilation hose? Its pretty much saturated with oil too. Any advice or comments relating would be appreciated, thanks.

Are you talking about your crankcase breather hose? They are more like plastic than rubber, but they wrap around the back of the engine and attach to some other things back there. It just recirculates unburnt hydrocarbons back into the intake. It can get pretty oily and gunky. Seems to be a pretty popular thing to break because it is fragile yet is in the way when you work on many things.

No its definitely not the crankcase ventilation pipe. This is a rubber hose on the right side of the engine down near the block under the intake manifold. If you look down through one of your plenums you can see if. It is an elbow shaped hose about 1 to 1-1/2" diameter so I can't just replace it with regular hose; its a fitted section which stinks. I definitely need to figure out its function before continuing to drive it. I've been searching like hell to get a picture of it and it's location.

After searching ECS's website I think it may be a heater hose coming off the block. Damn I thought it may have been something performance related I could have fixed.

Yes! Thank you so much! So it is PCV related, I wonder how much of this will effect my performance other than the strong oil smell I was getting inside the cabin. My hose is extremely cracked right at the 90* elbow.

yeah thats common and yeah its causing a vac leak so fixing it will get you some power back.

Really? Even if it's just crankcase ventilation? That's so great to hear considering I have been experiencing vacuum issues for a while now. Searched my car up and down and nothing, could not find any issues what so ever. Can't we just eliminate vacuum with these cars and the related constant problems that it creates? Kidding....
