ok, yet another dumb question ... what gas do you guys (especially stock) usually use on a 2001 2.7T? i know it says unleaded ... and in the manual somewhere, it says premium recommended for best hp/performance i tend to use premium when i'm going to be riding on the highway for long distances at high speed and regular when i know i'll be in town for a tank or 2 haven't noticed any problems ... but who knows? so, any hints/ideas, etc?? thanks, dennis

Due to high compression ratio you should use premium fuel, lower octane fuel will cause your engine to knock and in the long run this can cause damage, it isn't a question of how fast you drive but how long you want your engine to last.

I always run/ran premium. Hence, I'm moded, but even before the mods I ran 93+. Cars with turbo-chargers should run on premium for maximum performance. Your robbing your car of it's true potential. Carbon build up is more likely in the event of lower ocatne use. IHMO Honestly, how much are you saving at the pump by using lower ocatne? You will eventually pay for it down the road in costly serivce and repairs. Were at the mercy of the greedy-dirty burecratic fuel mongruls.

i have other friends with turbos in their cars, and the dash & gas tank say "premium only" ... not just "unleaded" like ours as for "91" ... up here in nj, my choices are "87" (regular), "89" (mid) and "93" (premium) ... if there was a "91", and i could save a few pennies, i would ... right now there is a 0.30 to 0.40 per gallon difference ... or $6 to $8 per full tank i don't see any knocks or hesitation or any other problem with regular for around town ... but i have been using premium for high speed highway driving (don't want a problem trying to pass at 70 or 80 or more mph but, if the consensus is that we should only use premium, then i guess i'll bite the bullet ... what's odd is that the owners manual doesn't "require" it dennis
