Default Wiper Motor, Park Chip Question

2003 A4,

So i have a problem with my wiper motor or park chip, one of the two. My car is parking the wipers in the middle of the windshield and when i actuate the wipers, they move all the way up to their vertical position, then all the way down to their horizontal position, and then back up and stop right in the middle of the windshield.

I've been told three different things; 1. They park position just needs to be reset, 2. I need a new park chip, 3. I need to replace the entire motor assembly because they don't sell park chips individually.

Can anyone help?

Default RE: Wiper Motor, Park Chip Question

The only thing you can do is take try and re-set the park position, if that doesn't work, you need the whole wiper motor assembly.
To get at the wiper motor assembly, take out the ECM box, wiper blades and cowl cover. There is a little 13mm gold nut on top of the motor which holds the wiper arms to the gear of the motor. Loosen that enough so the motor will spin free without moving the arms. Activate the motor and let it stop, then place the wipers at the bottom of the windshield where you want them to stop. Torque down the gold nut to 25NM and try the wipers. If the wiper arms hit the end of the windshield on the way up you set the blades too high. Take em off and move them down a knotch.

Default RE: Wiper Motor, Park Chip Question

Hey thanks a bunch. Turns out they just got bumped off the correct park position and adjusting the gold crank bracket fastened by the gold nut was all it took. I'm also amazed that you knew it was a 13mm nut haha.
