Gearbox Replacement
I'm a newbie. Please be kind hehe :-)
My 2003 A4 1.8 Multitronic 53,000KM mileagehas recently developed juddering at low rpm on gear shifts. It took a lot of effort to convince the dealership that a juddering takes place at gear shifts. I had to test drive the car three times to show the juddering which becomes irritating as the car heats up. ThelocalAudi dealer (Philippines) is now checking the Gearbox/transmission assembly. It'll cost around USD 19,000.00 to replace the gearbox assembly because the local Audi dealer can't do overhauls. It's too expensive. I would rather buy a new car. My A4 is working fine at full acceleration. The judder only occurs at low rpms. My question is,do I really need toreplace the transmission assembly? |
RE: Gearbox Replacement
Bummer - did you have them run a diagnostic and if so did you ask for the fault codes? I would recommend getting those if you already haven't and then trying a few other sources before you jump into bed with the dealer.
Also - I would recommend doing a search on the forum for similar circumstances. I believe quite a few people have had problems similar to yours, including myself. I'm assuming since you said you have a multitronic engine you have a CVT. So I would recommend doing a few searches on the forums - like "CVT", "Multitronic", "Transmission", etc. Either way, 19,000 seems extremely overpriced. Most transmission overhauls cost about 8k w/ labor. Good luck. |
RE: Gearbox Replacement
Thanks for your post:)
I think they did run a diagnostic. They said the transmission is ok based on the tests. I insisted that theylook into what was causing the judder. You've already had a transmission overhaul? Yes I've donea search on this problem.http://www.audi-forums.com/c5-forum/...ti-tronic.html Is this problemmerely a nuisance? or is it something that will gradually damage the transmission over time? |
