Audi A3 3.2 S-Line Titanium package (18's)

Any one with the same set up post up the miles you are getting on a set of tires... just to compare... my rears are bald (rotated once at five K) fronts have about five K left of them ( maybe seven or eight ) but at 11K should my Audi be killing tires this fast?


I know it all depends on how you drive... but its my wifes daily driver and shes been carting a infant around so its not like shes driving it hard....

Audi says this is normal... if thats the truth... I wouldnt recomned this car to anyone... terrible gas mileage... eats up tires.... rubbish ipod integration... nav blows....

More power is given to the rear tires than the front, so this is probably the explanation for the rear's wearing faster than the front. Also tire tire pressure can factor into how fast your tires wear; the lower the pressure the faster they can wear. If you hate the MPG did you look into the 2.0T? Think this might have fit you better from the sound of it.

How much you want to bet your tire pressure's too low?

My crap P6s are at 27k miles now, and they're still OK, aside from the loud noise they make.

I thought on the 3.2 (A3s) the Haldex quattro was FWD biased.

It is HALDEX so it is front wheel based, there the majority of the power isnt to the rear wheels. The MPG is not a huge problem... just not close to whats advertised in the window sticker. As far is the tire pressure being to low, its spot on. Im jealous that you have gotten that many miles on your A3 with Pirellis. I just dont know what to do. The Conti Sport Cont 2's arent cutting it in my opinion.

I thought the haldex systems only had to do with the tranny and made them non-permanent AWD... does it really make it FWD bias?

i had the conti sport contac2 on my '06 3.2 as well. they were changed out at 15520 miles, not because of wear, but blc of punctures on 2. i prob. had 2-3k left on them maybe.

Here's a tire theory for you.

My shop here which tunes racing cars says that I shouldn't rotate tires. The reason for this is that the suspension and camber are tuned and are different for the fronts and the rears. He says change the fronts twice for each time you change the rears. (FWD) Seems logical to me, I'll see how it works out.

EPA mileage and actual mileage are TOTALLY different in all cars. The EPA figures are on a dyno, smooth driving, and probably no accessories on at all. Use the AC and the brakes....and bam...no where close to EPA mileage. FWIW, I get about 40mpg real world driving (city/highway) on a TDI. My first set of Pirelli P Zeros only lasted 12000km though...torque is a bitch!
