Default exact starter location on 2.7t motor

Having a problem with my car not starting today. Its a 2000 A6 2.7t 6 speed and has about 108,000 miles. The battery is fine and the starter its not ticking or cranking. All i hear is the starter it self spinning, not engaging into the flywheel. Where is the starter located, ive been looking around and cant seem to find it. Also has anyone replaced the started themselves? How hard is it? I need some info asap as i have nothing to drive and cant get to work.

thanks
