Default Problem: Trunk won't close

Did some research couldnt find much.I popped my trunk open with the key yesterday to take out some car cleaning stuff. When I went to close the trunk it didntsnap back into place. And my indicator gauage says its open. The latch doesn't want to connect to the bottom of the trunk. So Im stuck driving around with a trunk that wont shut. ANy suggestions. Everything looks fine I cant get it. Nothing is clogged to prevent it from closing.

Default RE: Problem: Trunk won't close

i used to have this problem with my trunk and doors but only when it was really cold out and when it got warm it woudl shut again ... its gotta be teh latch not snapping back into place ... i would take both the clip on the lid and the clip on the car apart and oil them because it virtually cant be anythign else!!?? ... try pressing the trunk buttom on ur remote or in teh car a few times with the lid open and it might knock it loose but my best guess is the latch problem ... if everythign is shutting right then nothing can be bent or anythign

good luck

Try WD-40 or if your having a Greek wedding some windex (OK forget the windex idea) Just make sure the latch piece moves easily. Also try opening it ahain with the key incase you bumped the latch into the closed position.

The WD40 didnt work. I check both latches, they are in perfect condition.

jpetm - I'll try this out later today, maybe see if I can take the two pieces apart. but they move with no problems, therefore nothing is stuck.

Remove the truck lid linner and check the linkage going to the lock cylinder from the truck latch. Also check the latch wedge adjustment on the body, which is hidden behind a small plastic cover. If the wedge is loose, then the latch may not engage when the trunk is closed. I had a problem with a 1996 A6 with a trunk which would not unlock, so I had tounfasen the wedge to pop the trunk open.

Its a faulty electrical contact in the trunk latch (on the lid of the trunk) I replaced hundreds of them. Just replace it.
