Default Updated question***Any ideas?

Got my car back from the shop and my coolant level indicator comes on and flashes yet the coolant level is fine. The shop that repaired it ordered a new sensor but after they replaced it the indicator still comes. They can't find anycause for the problem.

The shopsays it might bethe instrument cluster going out. I question this because when I first start my car and for the minute it takes before the coolant level light comes on everything looks fine on the cluster. Seem to me if the cluster was the problem that other things would be showing bad.

How does the coolant reservoir work? Is the sensor reading something else inside the reservoir and could the reservoir be my problem?

Anyone ever have this issue or know what it might be?

i wouldnt say it was your cluster but it sounds like it is def part of the cooling system itself ... if they replaced the sensor then it has to be another component to the system... if i were you i would just pay to take it to the dealer because it may be a wierd electrical problem and its better to catch it now then ride it out without knowing what it is because that only leads to more problems

id takeit to the dealer elecrtical wierd stuff always freaked me out

no his coolant stays fine ... its gotta be something in a res. or an electrical problem

try having them put another sensor on ...they may have gotten a bum one they should be able to return it for free and shouldnt charge you

Elsewhere someone said it could be air bubble in the coolant system.

Anyone know where the bleeder valve is on the A6 3.0? And how to bleed it?

On the 1998 A6 wagon 2.8L 2V AFC engine the coolant pipe has a bleeder screw with a 5mm allen socket head on the left side. You need a long allen socket to get at it. It is very hard to see. The 3.0L may be similar. Just loosen the bleeder screw and retighten when the fluid comes out. Which sensor was replaced? On the AFC the coolant temperature sensor and the coolant level sensorare on the same coolant pipe atdifferent locations. How old was the coolant and what year A6 3.0?How many miles?

there are 70K miles on the car.

Are you saying there could be two sensors? One for the level and one for the temp?
