I know there are a ton of topics on this and I searched but with no specifics to my vehicle. I have an B6 A4 1.8T. One coil pack went a little while ago. It was replaced with a slightly used one. I want to do them all now. It is a little sluggish of the start.
There are four packs, but only 3 bolts. I assume the bolts hold the packs down? Is the middle bolt for the middle two packs?

i don't have bolts holding mine down so i can't tell you if the two middle packs are held down with one screw, you have the car, you tell us. serously, look at it, if there is a bolt holding it down take it off and swap the packs. I just can't understand why you are asking how to take some screws off.
I have a 2005/A4/B6/1.8T with 36,000 miles.There are nobolts holding down the coil packs. They are held in by a friction fit and can be pull straight up and out.
I just changed all 4 coil packs plus the spark plugs. The MPG improved noticeably.
If you are running "E" coils, which were used on the B5 but many of us use them with better results on the B6 than the most current B6 option (the "R"), then they do screw down with 2 allen bolts per coilpack. If you are using anything else, they are held in place by suction.
Regardless, they go on the same way; non-"E" coilpacks are just not held in place by bolts. 5 minute swap for all four. Easy as pie.
If you have the E's, it is very simple to know this. I mean, the dang bolts go right through the coilpacks.
If you think any of the bolts around the coilpack but not THROUGH the coilpackare for the coilpack, then you're mistaken, OP.
If there are no bolts going through the coilpack body itself, then they just pop right out by lifting up. Don't lift up so much that you pull the wire harness off.
There is no DIY probably because it is one of the easiest things to do.

I read an earlier post from a '99 a4 which said there were bolts attached, which is why I asked, after looking at mine.
There are no direct bolts attached to the packs so it shouldn't be a problem. I just wanted to make sure so I don't mess anything nup.
