Default Green greasy fluid leak? Help!

Anyone know where this leak might be coming from? There is a green greasy fluid leaking onto my garage floor every evening when I park my 5-speed 2002 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8T Thanks!

Default RE: Green greasy fluid leak? Help!

Is your collant G12 like it should be? If so, the fluid in your coolant overflow will be pink. If it is the same color as that green, then it's coolant. And you shouldn't run the green coolant anyhow so get the leak fixed (rear collant flanges are common fails) and get the correct fluid in. you could have a bad head gasket, too, if that is in fact coolant.
I have seen motor mount failures, usually on the passenger side (due to heat from turbo), where the fluid looks somewhat like that, but it wouldn't be that high on the engine.

Thanks for your help! Nice A4 you’re having there dude! How’s that 6-speed? I’d wish mine was 6-speed instead of 5. Anyways…

I bought this A4 used from a friend who drove it as a lease and always had it dealer maintained. It has 56k (mainly stop and go traffic) on it and has never had the coolant flushed and replaced. I cannot imagine the dealer not being aware of G12 coolant and mix something else in there when it was low?! But I am still thinking it’s the coolant. It has been low lately and filled it up with a bit distilled water. I will have the problem checked out today and will let you know what they find. I will ask them about the rear coolant flanges. Thanks.

You might also be right about the head gasket: I have noticed more and more engine oil leakage from the valve cover gasket, and might need to have this gasket changed.

Do the motor mounts also contain fluid? I don’t think it’s the mount.

I had this green fluid issue checked out today. My local Audi-specialized garage here in Anchorage (do not go to local Audi dealer – disappointing) told me the stock coolant used by the factory is this greenish/blue color. It’s most likely something related to my coolant: hose, flange, etc. They’ll work on it on Monday. I also have a small leak around the valve cover gasket. They’ll quote this job or I might take that on myself.

Stock G12, even from factory, is pink. Now, it may have been different prior to 2003 B6's, but I've never seen a post 2003 B6 with anything but pink.
Here is pic of overflow res. from my car after last coolant change.

Green? No fluid used by audi is green. The closest thing it could be is powersteering fluid mixed with oil. Check the level of the power steering resivoir (green cap) ironic its a green cap..

Thanks for showing that picture of your coolant color, bustanut.

Here are some pictures of my coolant overflow tank. It’s hard to keep things clean here in Alaska! These cars are really tested to their limits here.

Default RE: Green greasy fluid leak? Help!

I think I have figured it out.

My 2002 A4 1.8T manual tells me to use G12 coolant. I have done some research and found (quote):

“G11 is the Blue Coolant (do not use in A4).
G12 is the Pink/Red Coolant.
G12+ is the Purple Coolant (the one I have heard my garage talk about when I brought in my A4 earlier this week)

G12+ is a new product that is compatible with both G11 and G12, and ultimately will replace both.

G11 & G12 should not be mixed, but G12+ can be mixed with either G11 or G12. Mixing coolants causes reactions within each coolant. Clogging is the worst case scenario where the chemical mixture from each coolant combines to turn into a sort of jelly like substance.”

Like in my case! My green (coolant?) fluid leak is jelly/greasy. But I guess I do have some sort of coolant leak and my mine is simply old (56k) and ready to be changed. Stay tuned, will have it checked out on Monday.

Any thoughts/comments on purple G12+?

After I had this repair done, the bill showed they filled up my early 2002 A4 B6 with ZVW 237105 coolant. Any thoughts about what this might mean? This number tells me nothing. Thanks!
