View Full Version : Gota few problems.
spike6339 05-13-2008, 09:22 AM So first off. I just pulled out a few spark plugs to see what condition they were in. And I noticed they aren't really bad, But I did notice a little bit of oil on the plugs??? What's that mean? I'm going to go out and get new ones here today, and see what happens. Also I posted earlier about my car making funny squeeky noises. What do you think the odds are that the bushings are actually bad. Or would they just need greasing? Every time I turn the wheel or move the car it makes Some loud creeking noises.... I guess those are the only real problems I've had with this car. Nothing major just want it As close to perfect as I can get, haha. Lemme know what you think....
spike6339 05-13-2008, 09:22 AM sorry If this makes no sense I just got off work and am way tired
auditech79 05-13-2008, 11:41 AM For the oil in the plugs, it means you have a leaking valve cover gasket. (easy fix)
The squeaking noise is probably from the upper control arms, push down on your fenders and bounce the suspension, if you can hear the squeak you need to replace the upper control arms.
spike6339 05-13-2008, 05:42 PM well that's exactly what happens when I push up and down on the fenders :( How much am I looking at for replacement on those? Where's a good place to buy from??? lemme know thanks.
auditech79 05-13-2008, 06:26 PM www.ecstuning.com (http://www.ecstuning.com) has two different manufactures (Febi & Meyle) The Febi brand is usually a little cheaper, but meyle has an upper control arm kit that sells all four for like $380, or you can get a complete kit from either manufacture for $520 which replaces ALL the links. The upper control arms are the ones that usually wear out though.
Labor if done by a shop is usually 4.5 to 5 hours.
spike6339 05-13-2008, 07:35 PM ok........... And i'm not doubting the fact that it's prolly the Control arms. But I called my mechanic to find out how much it would run me. And he told me to just bring it in. But i'll have to wait for that. So I just asked him what he thought it was. And he said by the way I describing itt, it sounds like ball joints..... Which sounds possible. Cause It makes the sound when I turn left to right when i'm parked, Which really shouldnt' move the Control arms...
hwcoy 05-13-2008, 07:55 PM Does the noise sound like the one in this video??
This noise was coming from my 05 Pilot. It would sound like this when i turned my wheel going slow and while parked. It needed some grease in my CV Joint.

spike6339 05-13-2008, 08:35 PM yeah that's exactly what it sounds like. But the weird part was it made the sound while i was driving too. Even if i'm not moving the wheel any.... WOuld that still be the cv ?
auditech79 05-13-2008, 09:11 PM No its not the ball joint, that would make a clunk, and almost never happens on audi's.
The cv joint can ONLY make noise when the car is moving, so if bouncing the suspension makes the noise it sure as hell isn't the CV joint. Un-less you have a blown cv boot as well.........
Im guessing your mechanic isn't an audi certified technician, if it were a chevy i would replace the ball joints too.
BeatjunkieXL 05-13-2008, 11:36 PM i'd listen to the tech...
spike6339 05-14-2008, 09:55 AM yeah..... the mechanic I go to knows ZERO about audi's :( I'd love to take it to an actual Audi Dealer or Good audi tech, but the money wont allow it. So for now I guess I have to settle for the smaller guys. Hopefully it doesn't bite me in the ass. I dont imagine they could screw up some control arms to bad. So I'm going to have it looked at today at a shop in the area. And if it come out to be the Control arms, we'll see what happens. As for ECSTuning.com Which ones should I pick up??? the FEBI or they Meyle??? what's the differences?
euro_2nr 05-14-2008, 10:36 AM I just replaced my 2 upper control arms on my A6 not too long ago and hopefully they don't go out on my A4 anytime soon but its an easy fix. If you're mechanically inclined you shouldn't have a problem. Febi should work fine. Check prices and sometimes its better for you to buy the parts and have them do the labor
spike6339 05-14-2008, 06:32 PM Yeah I could probley figure out how to do it on my own. But the problem is I have no work space. haha. But yeah i'd buy the parts myself for sure then take it in and have it done. Like I said I know a place up north my my moms house that is only like 40 bucks an hour. So even the long jobs work out for me. I'm probley going to take it in and have them do the timing belt at the same time. get all the stuff outa the way. I'd pick up the timing belt kit from ECS too. Because all I know is my car has 134,xxx on it and I have no clue when the timing belt was changed last. Dont wana pay for it later.
