Default Auto transmission at low speeds clunk!

I have a 2001 S4 tiptronic. I have done a lot of repairs to this car timing belt, seal leaks, CV boots, A arms, rear diff seals, oxygen sensor, catalytic converter, all hoses, etc... the general list. If I am coming up to a stoplight and braking sometimes the light turns green and I accelerate again the transmission is either slow or confused and I hear a clunk! while it shifts. It only does this occasionally and usually around the exact speed.

I have a mechanic who recommends that I pull the tranny pan, clean it and the screens. Audi says this is "lifelong" system that doesn't need any maintenance. The mechanic says people on this board recommend this procedure at 60K. It will cost around $400 to do this so I just want some opinions. Maybe some fresh synthetic will help the tranny work better? Or can I clear some codes and make my transmission "re-learn." Any insight here? Thanks.

The same thing used to happen in my brand-new A6 (also a 2001). I think it's just a characteristic of the tranny and not necessarily a problem.

I've had the same issues with my 2001 S4 too. I don't think its too much to worry about. I know what speed it does it at, so I just try to stay away from that.

if your really worried about it just change the filter, clean the valve body, and add some fresh fluid. They say they are a lifelong system but if thingshappen that arenot normal they will change the fluid and filter. Do it yourselfand only pay a little more then 100 beans for the fluid, seal, and filter buster brown/.

spend 250 and get a DTS...then your clunk may be gone.
