Default tell me it isn't so!

so, i went to replace my valve cover gasket today on my passenger side. i got everything apart when i noticed it wasn't going to clear this part. how frustrating! on the driver's side it turned in a way that it doesn't interfere with the vlave cover removal. stupid question but, what is this? and is there a way around it?

That little cylinder this is your diverter valve. Is that what your asking about?

i thought the diverter valve was at the front of the engine by the throttle body boot. this is at the back, right behind the passenger side valve cover. The nipple of it protrudes just enough over the back of the valve cover that i can't lift the cover enough to remove it. any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK. i believe the sivler canister part in my pic is the passenger side combi valve. so, can anyone tell me how they got their pass side valve cover off with that being in the way or if it has to be moved, how do you do so?
