Default Coolant Leak

Alright people, when I got to work today I noticed a pretty good dripping of coolant from the back area of the engine bay.

Does anybody know off hand what might be leaking from the back of the engine compartment? If it was the water pump wouldn't it be
alot closer to the front of the car.

Anyone know of a hose that runs back there that has a tendency to leak?

I would have just layed under the car, but I'm in my dress close. Any advice? Its killing me to be sitting in the office with my car out in
the parking lot leaking!

Thanks!

It's prolly the secondary water pump. It's nested underneath the intake manifold and is somewhat of a common failure (at least according to my last S4 and previous research Do you have a Bentley manual?

I had the same thing, it was definitely the aux. water pump. It's about a 150 dollar part if i remember, but the dealer will want around 1000 to do it. It's not too bad of a diy if you don't have an apr bi-pipe. http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng69.shtml

You can save yourself a few bones by getting your new pump here if you need. There might be a slightly better price somewhere else, however, ECS is pretty kickass.

I have a 2004 S4 but I had a coolant leak like you had explained and the coolant expansion tank cap is a pressure relief cap that releases when the temp and pressure get to high, it then pops open and releases coolant from the bottom of the expansion tank and may look like its comming from the back of the engine bay.

I usually buy the genuine audi part myself and have the dealer replace the hard ones. My dealer did it for about $500. The only drawback is the dealer won't warranty the part if it fails.

You doing timing belt with the water pump? You might want to consider it since you'll have to remove the bumper and the rest of the crap to put it into service position.
