Default Radio issues

Has anyone else had this problem.......radio sound seems to be going in and out at random times (gets louder than softer)......will happen whether the radio is on or CD. I isolated the speakers to see if they were the problem, but that is not it...........any thoughts? Seems to happen more when the sunroof is open.....could that be a factor?

I have had that same issue, thought my ears were playing tricks on me. I know what you are saying it will be loud and then go down noticeably lower with out touching the volume, it is strange. Hopefully someone knows how to resolve this weird problem.

I have noticed this as well. If I have all the windows and the sunroof open, it happens. Sometimes in the city, sometimes on the highway. My car didn't come with a manual and it's been on backorder from Bently Publishers for a couple months now so I can't look it up...

Its called your sound/road noise equalizer, the older cars for some reason can turn it off but if anyone can figure out how to turn it off in a 2004 or newer car please let me know. As more outside noise is picked up by the radio(wind, tires) and turns the sound up, when you come to a stop or it gets less noisey the radio will turn down againl. Someone said there is a TSB on this and the dealer has to do it.

My manual just came in today. To turn off/adjust Speed Volume Control: Press the MENU button for longer than 2 seconds to enter the basic settings. Turn the knob (on the left) counterclockwise to reduse the value. Turn it clockwise to increase the value. A value of 0 will turn off the SVC fuction.

Hey bro,

I went through the same thing (I think). I also have an 04. All 04 and up models that have the Bose w/ Symphony sound system were equipped with more than 1 microphone in the car so the sound coming from the speakers adjusts according to background noise both outside AND inside the car. Unfortunately, with the 2004 cars, the mic that measures the cabin noise has problems when the car is hot (say above 85-90) and causes the volume fluctuation until the cabin temp has come down. This is a known issue and there is a TSB out there for it. You just have to disable the AudioPilot and turn your CSV back on.

Go here for more details. Good look! http://dejong947.com/audi/tsb/audi.tb.91-04-17.pdf
