Default Bad a/c smell for first minute

Hey,

I have an '06 A4 with about 23K miles on it. After not driving my car for a couple of weeks, I noticed a bad odor coming out of the A/C whenever I turn it on. Its gotten really bad now and it smells like 'wet laundry' in the car for the first couple of mins.

After a lil research, I found the cause might be due to mold/mildew hiding somewhere. The common suggestion was to blast the A/C on high temp, max fan and then use some sort of air-cleanser.

Has anyone dealt with this sort of problem before? Can someone provide suggestions on what kind of cleanser/disinfectant to use and how?

Thanks in advance!
SM

well i dunno if this will help at all, but you might want to change out the pollen filter. I have no idea if that air gets used inside the car or not but its just an idea. otherwise i wouldnt know what to do

you said you haven;t driven your car in a while?....my dad has a corvette that he only drives in the summer and during the winter a few mice actually built a nest in his engine bay and one of them died in the air vents and that caused a wicked bad smell coming from his a/c i'm not saying this is what happened to you but stranger things have happened

I ran into the same issue this morning. I wondered if the smell was on the outside or if the car smelled like that. One thing I did do the night before is run the air until I got home. I turned the a/c off a little bit before I got to the driveway this evening to see if maybe tomorrow will be better. It was the first time running the air in a while. That could have something to do with it.

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode with Jerry's BMW.
