Default 2.7T wheels question

Hello
I have an 01 a6 2.7T with H&R Sport Spring/Bilstein Sport which lowered the car for 1.50-1.75 in the front and back from the original suspension. Now I want new wheels. So I was wondering should I go with 17" or 18" also I want know about other measurements which I should look for while buying new rims. for e.g. 17x7 or 17x7.5 Because I read some posts about the car having bigger front braking system. I want to buy the right ones. Most people recommended 17 inch rims because I'll be driving in new york. So any tech help will be appreciated.

well if ur around potholes you are pretty safe with 18s x 7.5 ... 17s are too small ... offset of around 35mm
