A buddy of mine just had his engine rebuilt because the timing belt broke. He bought the car this way and now that it's all together it runs but not more that 15 sec. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be going on?

It is... if it wasn't it would run at all and they checked the timing a couple times. Anyone have any other ideas?

The car does not sputter at all. It runs fine but just dies. THere are NO codes that show up either. You can hear an intake leak of some kind though but we can't find it anywhere. Also if you hit the gas peddle the car will stay running but as soon as you let off and it goes to idle it dies again.

If you're sure it's not the timing that's off (seems likely), I would replace all of the vacuum lines. It should probably be done anyway and just by poking around under there, you may end up finding the leak you mentioned.

Most likely, a vacuum leak would cause some stuttering.
Does it consistently cut out at 15 seconds?
All I can recommend is a visual inspection for collapsed hoses. A pirate air leak that causes such a quick stall would be a large one. It would likely be a larger hose, such as the PCV hose or brake booster hose, perhaps even a leak directly at the intake manifold.
Perform a vacuum test and check the fuel pressure, both dead-head and at idle.

mine had a leak in the intake manifold gasket.. it progressively got worse until the car would stall. it lasted more than 15 seconds, but i'm sure that if i let it keep getting worse, it would have gotten to that point.
