Default DIY vs. Being in debt

Hello everyone, I am new here... and also new to the Audi world.

About nine months ago I purchased a 2000 Audi A4 Quattro turbo, but since then have had bad luck. To make the story short, there are tons of things wrong with the car, that, when added up by a local service tech, would cost a grip to repair. I need to sell this car, but I do not want to sell it with all this work needing to be done, so I want to get some of it done by myself.

a few of the main problems (with the prices the tech gave me) include: 1.) a coolant flush, a new coolant flange, and a new temp sensor. this service right here would cost me $351. i did a bit of research, and i can get the parts i need to complete this job for well under $100. so why such a high price?

2.) headlight washer pump $106. ??? i can get one of these for about $40.

3.) left outer tie rod end $128

4.) oil leak @ VC gasket $385

these prices just seem way too high. i know it is a european car, but getting the parts myself is extremely cheap, so is it the service i would be paying for here, or what? am i missing something? it just seems that these problems would be quite easy to fix myself with the right tools if i just purchased the parts myself.

please let me know what the best route to take is.

Well I have never taken my car to the dealer, but the prices seem about right it's a stealership plus its german what do you expect. I would try a local repair shop if you can't repair it yourself. Also you would have to have the car aligned after you replace the tie rod.

Just skip the headlight washer, i cut mine out and glued the caps on, they make taking the bumper off a real pain too. Those prices dont seem too steep, the valve cover is pretty easy to do though, along with the TRE as long as u get an alignment.

are you sure you need a new temp sensor? if you do it is right behind the head its hard to get your hand in there but not alot you have to do to get it out.

if your gonna sell it dont bother the stuff its minor repairs that anyone buying an 8 year old car should expect.

but if you must repair it then for sure do it yourself. try your local salvage for the washer pump i just got one for 20 bucks

i got my tierod ends for 40 dollars each at autozone(partshouse) also if you mark where they are on the threads you can avoid an alignment
