DIY vs. Being in debt
Hello everyone, I am new here... and also new to the Audi world.
About nine months ago I purchased a 2000 Audi A4 Quattro turbo, but since then have had bad luck. To make the story short, there are tons of things wrong with the car, that, when added up by a local service tech, would cost a grip to repair. I need to sell this car, but I do not want to sell it with all this work needing to be done, so I want to get some of it done by myself.
a few of the main problems (with the prices the tech gave me) include: 1.) a coolant flush, a new coolant flange, and a new temp sensor. this service right here would cost me $351. i did a bit of research, and i can get the parts i need to complete this job for well under $100. so why such a high price?
2.) headlight washer pump $106. ??? i can get one of these for about $40.
3.) left outer tie rod end $128
4.) oil leak @ VC gasket $385
these prices just seem way too high. i know it is a european car, but getting the parts myself is extremely cheap, so is it the service i would be paying for here, or what? am i missing something? it just seems that these problems would be quite easy to fix myself with the right tools if i just purchased the parts myself.
please let me know what the best route to take is.
