Default gauge cluster / display

Hey everyone, this is my first post! i got my first audi on sunday and am just going to be doin work on it from here on out so ill probably have a few questions hopefully you non noobs can give me a hand...

OK, well i bought the2000 a4 1.8t and the computer display between the speedo and tach has about 10% of the lights it should, ( common problem i know) well i found one that is perfect condition but is out of a 1997 1.8t with only 8,000 miles difference between mine and theirs! he said he could help me install too and its WAY TOO GOOD OF DEAL TO PASS UP...

DOES ANYONE KNOW if the 3 year difference will cause any problems? he said he was not sure, but the only thing he could think of maybe was some immobilizer might go off or somethign but he didnt know... thanks a lot everyone ill have to post pics soon, love the car

No immobilizer on that that I know of. Get VINs from both the 2000 and the'97. Then callthe dealership parts counter, and they can tell ifthe LCDs on the dashes (or thewhole instrument cluster) are interchangeable.

The LCD is notinterchageable. The dealer can only replace the entire cluster. $600-$1000. There are outfits that repair the LCD. I had it done on mine $350. They turned it around in 3 days and warranty it for life.http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/P...x?category=565Or I'm sure you could find one on ebay.

ok you said that the dealer can only do it and its $600 - $1000, but if i buy it from this guy for say 200 or whatever, can we put it in my car which is a 2000 instead of a 1997 like the car its coming from? or what should i do

I don't think they are interchangeable. Look for one that is 99.5 and up

I know for a fact that you're going to run into some problems. The setup of the 97 cluster is different than the 2000 and the 97 has an analog clock vs. the digital display on the 2000. Not worth the hassle especially if you're paying $200 for it.
