Default Road Trip stats (and mpg summary)

I just got back from a 2228.8 mile roadtrip from Minneapolis to Washington DC (actually Arlington, VA) and back.

My 2008 A4 B7 3.2 quattro 6MT averaged 29.11 MPG using 93 octane gas and using the A/C about 1/3-1/2 of the total elapsed time. The Garmin nuvi 200W GPS indicates that I had a moving average speed of 58.9 MPH due to construction and traffic condition slow downs.

According to my receipts, I used 76.61 gallons of gas (from a topped off tank to start with to a topped off tank upon my return to my starting destination) at a total cost of $323.11, to go those 2228.8 miles.

The sticker on this vehicle indicated that I should expect 25MPG on the highway, but I observed nearly 20% higher fuel efficiency.

I did run into construction (45-55 MPH), lots of rain, and extreme temps that should have affected my fuel consumption. i.e. when I left WaDC, the temp was 100 degrees and pushing 70% humidity.

My route from I-94 to I-90 to I-80 to I-76 to I-70 to I-270 to I-495 and back cost me $67.70 in total tolls.

All in all, nearly 30MPG from this car is impressive to say the least. When I started this trip, my A4 had about 3400 miles on the odometer, so this car is just breaking in....

I've found I get better than 35 MPG going 65, and slowly decreasing, it's about 28 MPG by 80.

I'm getting 35-40 on the highway when I'm doing 65ish with my 2.0T (and REVO Stage 1)

I would expect the 2.0T quattro to get mileage like eMacPaul indicates - the 2.0T should get better mileage than the 3.2l but the actual difference is much less than I expected.

Now that I can post again...

I was very pleasantly surprised that my 3.2l quattro averaged nearly 30mpg (it was over 30mpg on the way out, and about 29mpg on the way back for a RT total of 29.11mpg) for a road trip like this. I would also expect that using the A/C will lower the mpg stats by about 1 or 2 mpg.

All in all, I never expected this car to get ~30mpg with the cruise set at about 72mph for most of the trip.

Going through the Allegheny Mtns in PA, there was lots of deep standing water on the highway - enough that an Acura spun out kissing the guardrail and causing havoc with the remaining traffic. That kind of conditions can't be good for mpg stats, but the quattro never pulled or felt like it was hydroplaning.

I love this car!
