I have a 2000 a4 1.8tqm and the car constantly smells hot and when i pich it i have full boost until 5000 rpms then nothing. No boost and it just sits there. The only way that I can get above 5000 rpms is if i accelerate real slow. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance.

I am not sure how the governor on those work but on our forklift at work, the engine redlines suuuper low unless you raise the RPM real slow then it goes to the normal RPM

i highly doubt thats the issue though, im sure these are much more sophisticated then those. just some .02

it smells hot?? idk what that is. but as far as boosting, does the car go past 5k at all? cause i kno w/ my car the boost falls on its face at about 5k and i have almost no boost but i can still bring the rpms higher.

no there is nothing i can keep my foot in it and it just sits a 5k

mabye a fuel cut. is the car chipped?

my bet is your cat is melted and is clogging your exhaust.

Cats are made out of ceramic and that doesn't melt. But they do clog and the symptoms do fit a clogged Cat. Most garages have a gauge that they drill a hole in front and in back of the cat and check pressures.

Actually there is more to a catalytic converter than just ceramic, and they can melt down and become clogged. They can also become clogged because of carbon build up.
