Default grating noise

I have a 99 a4, v6. whenever I brake the car on a slope down, and press the brakes, and release them slowly to move an inch forward, i hear a grating noise and i feel some vibration on the brake pedal. This noise increases as and when i release the brake further to inch the car forward, and stops soon as the car starts driving. Is it the brakes? or steering? or what???

i have a 1.8T and I had the same problem. You might want to check your brake pads, rotors. I changed my rotors and brake pads and the problem no longer exists. Turns out when i took off the stock rotors they had blistered on the back side from too much heat.[:'(] Hope this helps...

do you have a light on on your dash? if not it's probably just bad pads. i have a set of pads that have about 3000 miles on them that i'm not using because i got hawk pads now. they're really cheap pads but i'll sell them to you for 10+shipping. they don't have the wires on them because i cut them off but if your old ones have the wires, just cut it and splice them together. i also have a set of rotors if you need them too. just pm me

there's so many brands that it's really what you have money for/and personal choice. Hawk's are popular pads. Go ceramic when you get your pads, they don't make as much dust/dirt. As for rotors it's up to personal choice. You can choose Plain, Drilled, Slotted, or Drilled & Slotted. Plain rotors work just as good/maybe even better. The drilled and slotted are for weight reduction and reducing heat faster, but you don't really need them unless your racing on the weekends or somthing.
<<<<Personally, I have PBR ceramic pads and Zimmermann plain rotors. You can see in my avatar
