Ok so i have a 99' A4 1.8T its a Automatic and recently the car has been very hesitant about accelarating and then it will jerk and accelarate, the whole time it sounds like the motors reving up, also once you stop the car will shudder forward a little bit, and also the triptronic doesnt work......any ideas?

it almost sounds like the clutch. automatics have a clutch right? i kno its not a manual clutch but it needs something between gears, and it sounds like thats where you problem is.

automatics have valvebodies. they don't usually have the problem he describes. usually either don't shift, shifts really slowly, switches between gears at a certain rpm stuff like that.

Automatic transmissions have lots of clutches, but when a clutch-pack goes bad, it usually only affects one or two gears. It sounds like your trans might be in limp mode (second gear, no tip or TCC function), but often that will throw a MIL. You need to check for codes.

If your tranny is in limp mode, all the gears will light up on the dash in a red box, instead of just the gear your in. Youll also only have 3rd gear (I think). It could be a flooded TCU, which is not uncommon, or something more serious.First get ahold of someone with vag com and scan the ecu/tcu for faults. If nothing, check out your TCU to be sure its not in a pool of water (search TCU removal) and clean the wiring harness(s) on the bottom/side of the tranny. To check/fill your tranny fluid, well its sort ofinvolved. Search tip tranny fluid. If youre not in limp mode, tip function not working is probably a magnent out of place in the shifter itself, which is common.

Agree.

First off, the problem may not be transmission related. The lack of tip function could be either a tranny problem or just that the magnetic sensor that attaches to the shifter has fallen off (common problem on older cars).

Either way, get hold o someone with a vagcom and scan for engine codes as well as transmission codes.
