Default Shifting

1996 A6 quattro. Hard thumping noise when the car shifts gears & Sometimes running weird, puttering, the puttering goes away, but the shifting problem does not.

Could be a motor mount. Could be the transmission.

The car went into limp mode we just had the transmission rebuilt, took it to an Audi repair shop after that (for it running weird) and had a couple computer modulesreplaced (obviously wasn't the problem since it's still running weird)......& removed the remote start we had put on (4 years ago).....still shifting hard & running weird at times !

Bad transmission rebuild? Take it back to who did the work.

Have you thought about checking the fluid level? Low fluids make trannies do weird stuff sometimes. If that's not the case, like mhamilton said, take it back to the place you had it rebuilt.
