Ive got a 1991 200 turbo 10v, It was taking awhile to start at first but always had fired up. but it wouldnt start after I shut off the engine for 20 minutes and returned to it! I replaced a blown fuse 15amps , it blew the new one after this I suspected the fuel pump to be locked up? towed it to the shop i work at almost 15hrs later turned the engine over and she started right up and ran well! left it over the weekend at the shop returned to a dead battery so I jumped it off and it started up and ran well the fuse for the fuel pump was getting warm after 20 minutes or so. so I shut it off. I drove it home with no problems a day later with no problems! well got up to crank it up today and a very dead battery is what I found! I suspect a parasitic drain at the fuel pump relay or in the alternator? any help will be greatly appreciated regarding this condition

It could be a parasitic drain, a good auto electric shop should be able to test for that. Also check the battery, is it fully charged, does it hold the charge? A weak cell can drain the battery pretty quickly.

it has a brand new battery in it ! and alternator belt tension is good!

I jumped it off to do some testing on the battery and the alternator and while checking basic things like wiring and fuses i noticed that the positive battery terminal was getting really hot![:@]then i checked the fuel pump fuse after shutting the car off and observed that it was gettimg ready blow relatively soon! I had just replaced it. Inhindsight I also remembered that the autocheck system had briefly flashed the battery icon several times before this thing reared its ugly head! I believe this car has an overload or overvoltage relay could this be malfunctioning? my tests showed 13.8v at the battery however it would drop down to 11.9v under heavy draw use i.e high beams , A/C blower high speed,radio etc. any ideas

Check current draw at each fuse with the engine off.

remeber that some of the fuses are hot at all time though. also on such an old car if you havent already done so you should replace the battery cables and terminals. they can drain you battery if they are no good.

thanks for the insight I'll have to check the cables for ohms resistance and voltage drop. the (+) positive cable goes from under the backseat to the front of the car[:@]Ive just unhooked the battery cables fornow and parked ituntil I have time to further diagnose the car. Ive just took my 1984 volvo 240 Turbo Intercooler out of storage to get by, its a very rare one from what Ive been toldvery different from my audi but veryreliable!
