Default oil change & k&N filter

so there has been alot of talk about what oils and filters to use. this is my first oil change on my tt. so far, ive got a k&N oil filter(cant hurt), magnetic drain plug(always a good idea), and now which oil? im at a sticking point. mobile 1 5w30 or royal purple 5w30? keep in mind, the RP is $1 more expensive per qt. oh yeah, and tis is big: how many quarts of oil? ive heard conflicting #s. should probably check my manual(DUH).

Always use synthetic in turbos so if you have the 180 or the 225 use Synthetic

I use moblie one synthetic 5w 30 or 0w 30 depending on what season it is

Default RE: oil change & k&N filter

I am in the same situation, ready to do my 1st change soon. I have never used a syn oil (in many, many years of car, truck, motorcycle, andassorted off road, and vintage vehicles), but understand it is necessary with a turbo particularly. I plan to go with Mobile 1 5W30 myself.

Default RE: oil change & k&N filter

If you use mobile 1 buy 0w-40. This is what the dealer uses and it even says europen car formual on the bottle. I used mobile 1 0w-40 for the last year and just switch to castrol syn 5w-40 (they dont make 0w). Pretty much the same from what I can tell.

ALSO- Your first oil change in the audi is going to be a huge PITA!!! Dealerships were sued for drain plugs and oil filters falling off, so they put them on super tight!. My drain plug was on at about 200ft/lbs and my oil filter took 3 hours to get off. You MUST buy a oil filter wrench that is a belt where you can attach a socket wrench to. This is the only one that worked and I tried about 6 different types of wrenches. Plan for it to take some time. My audi's first oil change was a nightmare. Much worse then any other car I changed the oil on. After you change it the first time, it's no big deal, since you don't put it back together super tight.

The 225 takes 4.3 or 4.6 qts. Buy 5 qts and you'll be fine.
