Default Catalytic converter options

So I have a stock 01' with 116k on it. At this point i'm more about reliability and cost than performance upgrades (i know, shoulda bought a honda, not an s4)

Anywho...I have a bad catalytic converter and wanted to see what options everyone reccomends. Do I take it to midas and have them put on a generic brand cat or do I take it to my local performace audi repair person and have him install the factory cat, or is there some better option alltogether?

I don't know crap about cars. I just want my car to run right. Thanks in advancefor any help.

Assuming you don't have a bad 02 sensor or anything, your best bet is to bring your car to an exhaust shop. They can just cut out your exhisting cat and replace it with a new one. It shouldn't cost your more than $150 a cat, including the cost of a cat.

Don't bring it to a dealership, they will charge you about $800 for the cat itself.

I also advise you to not bring it to MIDAS, they tried to charge me over 1k to replace my old cats on my 2.8 A6.

^ That depends on what state and countyhe is in blues4....some do emissions tests for having a cat installed or not. Just make sure the place knows about the density of cc's ours is like 400 and l believe is made by leimfrieder or something crazy like that if you want to be legit.

OE Cats are 400 cel cats,

You could get a milltek 200 cel cats, and still pass emissions.
