I recently bought an 2002 Audi A4 1.8T quattro. The other day I noticed for the first time that when the car is started the security system beeps four times, I am wondering if I didn't hear the noise previously is because the radio is always on. The car does not make this noise everytime it is started only the first time in the day. Any suggestion as to what it could mean? Should I take the car in?

so what does it mean if the alarm hasn't been set off. I leave my key in the ignition w/ the doors unlocked.

vag it see if you get any codes, if so post the fault codes and go from there

also, try rolling up the windows lock the car with remote and see what happens

So i posted this question on another forum as well. Several people responded by saying that the problem is the backup batteries in the alarm. You can modify the batteries (which seems risky to me) or put a new whole "siren" in for 300 some odd dollars. I don't know how to get vag codesor even what vag codes are, so i may need some help on that one. I'm new to Audi's as posted earlier and new to foreign cars in general. When i roll up the windows and lock the car using the remote it chirps one time as normal. Another note though, I am having trouble making the alarm go off unless the window is rolled down and i use the inside door handle to open the door and then start the car using the key. The alarm in this case is then triggered. I cannot however get the alarm to trigger by me just pulling on the handle or rocking the car.

i dunno if this is a recent development or not, but I went on vacation for about a week. I didn't take my car so i left it in my drive way with the doors locked. WHen i got back the car was so dead it wouldn't even unlock. The alternator checked out ok and the battery is only a year old. So something is draining the car. I'm guessing it could be the security system. ANy help/suggestions.
