Default Buying 2001 Audi A4

Hello All,

I am a n00b to this forum.. I am thinking about purchasing a 2001 audi a4:

Celebration Package
Sports package
5 speed manual
91K

I live in the NJ area and the private owner is asking $7500 for it. I have not made any offers yet, but I think I will offer him $6500.

Do you guys have any reasons why I should not buy the car?? The only problems that I saw was that his check engine light was on. He tried to explain to me that this was a common problem amongst all a4s, and it was because of a system 2 lean error however, I think I need to go to autozone and get the codes read. Also, the power steering looks like its making some noise... Other than that the carfax history is clean...

THANKS!

if the cel is on, i wouldn't buy the car. it's not a common problem to get cels. without any problems, the price should be 6500 but with those problems drop it to like 5800. any pix of the car?

The only real way to find out why it's getting a CEL would be to get the engine codes read correct?

I checked out the car personally. It has some dings and scratches here and there, and the rims are a bit scracthed up. But nothing major besides that..

thanks again.

Lean codes usually are caused by vacuum leaks.
Have the codes read and post them.

Make sure you have the codes read before you buy the car. Also use that as leverage to lower the price of the car.

Looks like clean ride. Get the codes checked for sure and use that to haggle. Good luck on the purchase.
