Default a4 1.8 can't start HELP!!!!!

[>:]HI does any one now why my audi a4 1.8t stop running and wont start??? help will be appreciated. driving home my car all of suddenly slowed down and i heardsome clunky or low grinding noise from my engine or underneath my front end and that was the last of it?! clueless. i try to start the car but seem that the car won't engage to start. it sound and make a noise like over turning the key but the engine remain still. i can hold the key in the on position and the car will just my noise but the car won't work??? relplace starter but was not the problem....??? please HELP me anyAudi masters!!!! my email is yaj_jauni@hotmail.comthanks!!!!!!

well I would say coilpacks and plugs, but you said clunky and low grinding noise, so I doubt thats it...

Spin the engine by hand. If you can't, you've probably thrown a timing belt.

And wow, you write large.

sounds like your timing belt broke. have it looked at. if its your timing belt thats not good. valves got bent mostlikely. alot of $$ to repair

well when you crank the key the noise sound like its over cranking when the car is on. also you where thanking coil pack? are the located on the engine?what do youmean by turn the engine?? when i crank the key the pully and belts turn a little bit but the timing belt does not move at all??? i try turning the fly wheel through the with screw drive too but the TB does not move at all? im not sure if it's timing belt, cause when i took a peek the belt seems to be ok from the top view? more help please. thanks for the info!!!

Alright, slow down here. You've pulled back the upper timing belt cover and looked at the belt? There are 3 belts on the car, two you can see and one that's covered.

The one that's covered is the timing belt. Remove the top engine cover via the twist-lock plastic screws. Then, pull the two metal clips off the front cover of the engine. You'll see a wide rubber belt over the cam gear.
If the belt is in tact, spin the engine by hand with a wrench via the crank bolt on the flywheel pulley. If it spins with normal resistance, your tb is probably ok.



Can you video tape the sound and post it?

You might just have a bad starter that's not fully engaging. Do you hear a "wiiiiiiiiing" sound, as if the starter was freewheeling?
