Default Laptop Repair

I'm wondering if anyone here have had their laptops repaired at Best Buy/Fry's or such electronic stores?

I believe I'm having a hardware problem but I am not sure if repairing it will be worth is as I don't want the cost of the repair to exceed the cost of the laptop.

If anyone have any experience with this, how much do these repairs usually cost?

Thanks for the help!

DO NOT TAKE IT TO THEM!!!!!!!

What is going on? I have worked on many PC/Windows Based laptops. I'm sure DJ Spiel would also be able to help.

Thanks for quick response Josh.

I really have no idea what's going on. I would be surfing the net and all of the sudden the screen would turn into random colored pixels.

When that happens, there is nothing I can do other than turn it back off and on. When this happens, sometimes it would actually let me log back in but sometimes it just leaves me a blank black screen which forces me to restart the laptop again.

Other than that, everything runs fine.

I believe this would be a hardware problem. Maybe something is wrong with the graphics department?

POssibly... what kind of graphics card does it have? Nvidia? ATI? Intel? If you are unsure right click on your desktop, click on properties, then go to the settings tab. Under the little screen thing it will say what kind of graphics card you have. Post back what it says. I am thinking a driver update might be in order... if it still fails after that then you might have a hardware problem.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that it's running Vista. In which case, sometimes before the desktop load (when the Microsoft logo loading) shows up, it would get frozen around there and gives me a blank screen.

Go Here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

And choose the driver you need. Download it and install it. If the problem comes back then it is most likely the graphics hardware.

Thanks.

I'm trying to get the laptop to take me to the desktop right now. It keeps on freezing on me. [:@]

Yeah, it does suck. I didn't really care as I use it for Word and surfing the net. However, I still like it better than the Macbook though. [:-]

The laptop is HP.
