Default Key Programming

Hi,
Apologies if this has already been answered, I did a quick search but couldn't find anything.

Basically, I've just acquired a '98 A4 avant, I have three keys, one with a little torch (which I'm assuming is the main key), a spare key (sans torch) and a plastic key. All of the keys unlock the car, but only the spare key starts it. Presumably because it's the only one that has the correct code for the immobilizer.

So what I want to do is reprogram the main key, so that I'm able to start the car with it. I've read several things about unlocking the car with one key whilst another is in the ignition but these instructions seem to be talking about remote central locking, whereas my car has no remote. Just wondering if it's possible to do the reprogramming my self.

BTW I have a 7 digit code on the key ring, don't know if this is relevant.

Many Thanks,
Tom
