Default Podi Installed!

I received my Podi gauge kit today from Winston over at Podi so I had to install it.
A few things that I came across when I did it I wanted to pass along so that it might help others.
I have a 2008 2.0t FSI with paddle shifters. The kit will work with the paddle shifters!

On the 2.0T you have to find the bung that is under the engine cover at the rear of the manifold.

I received my Podi gauge kit today from Winston over at Podi so I had to install it.

If you follow Podi's instructions they will have you run the vac. hose out into the fender well and back into the car. I did not want my vac. line open to the road so I found a better place to go through the firewall and it only required me to drill a small hole. I used a snap grommet to make it all pretty and to protect the hose.
I ran the hose through the firewallusing a factory grommet that ended up just behind the steering column.

A word of caution, the factory torx screwsthat hold the factory steering column shroud are real small! I found that they did not fit well in the new Podi shroud.
My fix for this was to take some machine screws and grind down the heads so they would fit up into the holes of the lower shroud. They were a little thicker than the factory and they worked great, fit real well and were tight.

After that was all said and done I wired up the light to the factory dimmer and ground (make sure to test the bulbbefore its all in place, I didnt, and I had put the bulb in backwardsso it didnt work the first time!).

And its done, looks great with the red bulb, gives it a good factory look.

Nice. I'm planning to put my in later today. Unfortunately, it won't match until I get it painted cause I have the platinum interior.

Did you have any issues with the wires seeming to be too short? I don't see how it's possible for them to reach over to the headlight installation. In this picture I've got the gauge installed on the column, and I'm pulling the wires as far as possible. I measured them to be 11-3/4 inches.

I just spliced in about another foot of wire. If you do this you will not have a problem. I would also recommend not using the "T" tap that the kit comes with. Just bare the blue+gray wire and the ground wire and solder the wires to them. This is MUCH more secure than a T tap. I want to make it clear that a splice is not wire and tape! You need to solder the connection. This is a Audi and not a civic!

If you go throught the left wheel well you don't have to drill any holes. If anyone wants to see picsof how I did it, let me know and I'll take some. Some of my installed pics are here: http://vag-tool.kicks-ass.net/miscpics.aspx
