Default engine light flashing, rough idle '02 A4

02 A4, 1.8T, running great yesterday.
On the way to work this AM, engine started skipping, and check engine light started flashing.
Rough idle at traffic lights.
Just turned over 80,000 on ODO.
My initial thoughts are change the plugs, and maybe coilpacks have gone bad.
I have VAG-COM it said misfires on cylinders 1 &3.
Didn't hear the turbo at all.
I'll start with plugs, but does anyone recognize these symptoms as a computer component failure?
Wanted to ask the group for help before I chase my tail for days.
Thanks in advance for your time and interest.

yep def. sounds like the coil packs. Had to get new ones from the dealership. 30 dollars a pop. from what i read that if you had the older ones they might be covered under warantee by the dealership because of a recall on them. But might want to check it out if you dont want to dish out 30 for one. mine was at 102k when mine went...

Guys -
Went to replace coilpacks, found spark plugs covered in oil.
Oil had somehow pooled around the plugs, one wasn't even visible.
So I changed all plugs and coil packs.
Got a great big cloud on the first start after removing spark plugs, oil leaked into ignition chambers I guess.
Have any of you ever had an issue with oil collecting around plugs?
What causes it, how does it happen?

Default do not tighten plugs too much

uhhh, do NOT tighten the spark plugs really tight. basically you want to tighten them a little more than fully. if they are tightened too much you can cross thread them easily, then you are fucked.
