Default ABS sensor question

Is there a functional difference between front and rear ABS/wheel speed sensors? I see that ECS has different part numbers for them, but I'm wondering if that's because of the length of the wire that runs from the sensor to the harness. I'd think that functionally they're the same for a B5, but I want to be sure. Anyone know of any difference between them besides wire length? TIA...

Not for sure, but I think the things are the same other than harness. Pretty positive they are at least the same size.

Do you mean the plug ends that plug into the harnesses are different? Or the sensor end itself is different? If it's the harness end, I can probably splice the old connector onto the new sensor and make it work. If it's a fundamental difference in the pickup though, I doubt it can be adapted. I ask because I can get a front sensor from a friend for what is likely to be quite a bit less than the cost of a new rear sensor, not to mention he already has it and we're doing wheel bearing replacements today, so it's the ideal time to swap it.
