Default noobie

just got a new audi...2001 A6 4.2 with only 17,500 miles! a bomb of a ride. it needs new tires so i will look into archives and see what is suggested. tire rack says conti's and the local dealer says michelin's...?

Continentals are a good choice; Michelins are a good choice, too. They will last a bit longer than the Contis. You might want to consider the Bridgestone line, too.

I've run both Conti's and Michelins on my A4. Imolas is right, the Conti's didn't last as long as the Michelins, but the Conti's were much quieter on the highway. The Conti's seemed to be a bit more sticky in hard turns. That would make sense, shorter tire life is related to a softer compound whch typically grips better. I would base your decision on what kind of driving you do most.
