Hi Everyone,

I'm very new to the Audi brand and I just purchased my first Audi, a 97 A6 Quattro. I'm loving the car, but there is somethings that I'm having problems with:

The car came with a 6CD Changer unit (Bose sound system) and since the last owner just changed the battery on it (and off course he didn't have the code), the unit is in safety mode. Anyways long story short, he's supposed to pay for this to be fixed. I took the car to a dealer today and they couldn't remove the radio from its bay. The radio seems to be "stuck" somewhere and it only comes out about an inch before it gets stuck. Has anyone run into problem before? I searched most of the forums and couldn't find anything about this. What is the best way to get around this problem? I think the radio will eventually have to be removed for the serial number to be found, so I'll have to use a method to get it out.


Any comments, tips, suggestions are highly appreciated,

yes very simple problem theres an extraction tool you slide it its to thin strips of metal that slide into it and you have to pull one side out and then pull the other side with it very very easy call Stinger or find some one who sells Stinger products they ordered my extraction tool for me

The problem is not the tools though! It's the unit that seems to be stuck. When the latches are released, the radio comes out by about 2 inches and then something seems to hold it back. I'm not sure what this is yet. The guy at the dealer was using the tool too. So does the unit come out freely for a bit and then the latches hold it back or is the unit fully fixed and then using the tools it comes out freely?

I am having the same problem but my unit wont even unlock and allow you to slide it out at all. I have all 4 keys in the right way but at least 1 of the keys aren't unlocking and wont allow the thing to slide out at all. Anyone know of any other ways of getting the radio out, can you get to the sides of the radio to unlock it if you take apart the dash?

it almost sounds like whoever installed ur after market radios cut/spliced the wires so short that once the wires were connected to your radio thats it, and that youll somehow have to unplug the wires from the back, or almost try and just pull the plugs out of the back of the radio

I don't think these guys are talking aftermarket radio... I have a spare Bose radio at home- I'll look at it tonight and see if there is anything that might catch...

You can get the radio removal tools from www.zdmak.com or www.samstagsales.com . You must be using the wrong tools. You need one tool on each side, so that you can pull both sides simultaniously.
The Audi dealers can get the radio code by connecting your car to their diagnostic machine and to the Audi network.

there are two "clips" on the side (upper and lower) and also one on the middle. Mine got stuck on and I somehow managed to see the side profile (down into the sleeve) and saw that another clip that was catching I shimmied a butter knife down into the side to depress it an voila !! IDK if this help but what the hell dont hurt right ?
