Porsche would produce the Audi RS2, which was a limited edition high performance station wagon. The RS2 was only sold from 1994 until 1995, making a truly limited edition. The RS2 was based on Audi's 80 station wagon and was built in Germany. Audi and Porsche teamed up and powered the RS2 with a modified Audi 2.2 liter 20-valve turbocharged five-cylinder engine. The engine produced 315 PS at 6500 rotations per minute. While this small engine was used, many modifications were made to get a lot of power from it. Porsche changed out the stock turbocharger for a larger one, added a redesigned crankshaft, a heavy-duty intercooler, large fuel injectors, a low-pressure exhaust system, an upgraded induction system, as well as a Bosch engine management software for engine timing. Though the RS2 had a small engine at first glance, it could go from 0-62 miles per hour in just 4.8 seconds and had a maximum speed of 163 miles per hour. These times and speeds were remarkable for a car that weighed over 3,000 pounds!
Audi equipped the RS2 with its Quattro all wheel drive system to be sure that a car with this much power was controllable. Porsche ensured that the RS2 would handle well, upgrading its brakes and suspension so that it was more in line with a high-end sports car.
The RS2 would be tested for acceleration from 0-30 and would come in at just 1.5 seconds, which is faster than the McLaren F1 road car as well as Jacque Villeneuve's Formula 1 car of the same period. These are remarkable speeds, despite being a somewhat heavy high performance vehicle. Just 2200 RS2 units were produced during the 1994 to 1995 availability, making this powerful little car quite rare.
