1989 80Q Hood Release

Thanks for the recent post 6/26 for the 1989 100 hood release. I am guessing we have a similar problem. I tried to follow the steps suggested, but have not been successful yet. I was able to take off the knee panel, unscrew the release handle and pull almost a foot of cable into the car. I can see the cable moving around in the crack between my hood and front left quater panel, close to the windshield. I can hear a clicking sound when I pull it, but it does nothing. I tried pulling really hard and nothing. Where do i go from here. Is there any other way to get the hood open so I can what the cable is doing. I live in an apartment, so am limited to a standard tool set. Thanks for any help I could get. My audi keeps kicking at 201,000!!

If the latch/lock mechanism is the same as on 100 then you can get a coat hanger, cut one end and fashion a small hook. Slip it through the grill and pull on the lever. That is if you know what to look for. You can go under the car and try the same but you will need long arms. Then there is the brute force method, break the plastic grill and pull on the latch.

RE: 1989 80Q Hood Release

Thanks for the idea. I was not able to get the release mechanism to release from the grill or under the weather stripping between the grill and the hood. I really do not know what I am exactly looking for. Is there an picture of the release mechanism to help me? I am thinking about taking it into the audi dealer and see how much it would be for them to just pop the hood. I am kind of affaird to go that route. Any other suggestions? Thanks

This method only works if you know what to look for, I don't know if the latch is the same as on 91 100.
