1990 audi 100
I need some details on how to remove and replace a heater blower on my 1990 100..Do I need to drain cooling system and tear dashboard apart? I found blower and heater box under splash guard but cant figure out where the mounting screws are...Under the dash?

Probably the brushes are gone.

The 2 long straps that look like hose clamps.
If you loosened, removed them, and it still won't move, it's because of the glued in foam weatherstripping where it is attached to the firewall. Most likely have to use a 2X4 or something to pry it loose. Watch all the connections from the servos, and the thin cable, from heater assembly to heater control. And, when you re-install, know that there is a rubber boot inside, under the dash, that you have to pry the lips over the inlet, or you will have leakage, and poor performance. And, yes, you do have to drain the coolant and remove the hoses, as the heater core is in this same assembly. First time I did it (wrong) heater performance sucked, afterward. It is a bitch of a job. My sympathy. Make sure of the brushes and bearings in the new unit, if it is a used part, new part, should be okay, but don't put a borderline motor in, with such a bitch of a job. Cheers, George |
