1990 Audi 200 Turbo Quattro
 

Hi...this is my first post.

I got into an accident in my 1990 Audi 200 Quattro (turbo) and the insurance company is delcaring the car a total loss. My boyfriend and I love the car and want to get it fixed. The cash value of the car according to the insurnace company is around $2100...the cost to fix the car is about the same. The damage is cosmetic only, there is no structural damage to the car. The engine is fairly new (we just put it in in September) and the transmission is only two years old. We have every intention of keeping the vehicle, and have already verified with my insurance company that they will reinsure despite a salvage title.

The rear passenger side bumper, tail light and quarter panel need to be repaired (not even replaced according to my body shop.)

My question has to do with a California Salvage Title. I am getting mixed messages about the problems associated with a Salvage Title. Has anyone had any experience with a Salvage Title? Since the car is already 16 years old, how much would a California Revived Salvage Title affect the vehicle?

Every state is different. In some states "salvage title" means structural damage in other it means the same as "totaled" meaning that it costs more to fix it than it is worth. I am surprised that in California it automatically becomes a salvage title. I would check with the state motor vehicles department as flipping, registering and insuring the car can be a pain and not worth the hassle that you will have to go through.

It only makes a difference if your going to sell the car if your not it doesnt matter

Your insurance company probably considered your car a total loss because of the age and cost to repair. The car is not really in the category of "salvage". I suspect you could repair the car and continue to drive it. Even if you eventually sell the car, you are only talking about approximately $500 between what you would get for "salvage" and retail. If you like the car, and can afford the fuel for it, then fix it and be happy.

A car is considered a total loss if the damadge (corst of repair) exceeds 25% of the cars current market value ... the salvadge title sould not be a problem ... because you said that you want ot keep the car and if you do decide to sell i dont think it will be a problem ... the right people will buy it just for the motor alone ..
